Congressman Uses Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez To Make A Point About Immigration Laws

Congressman Uses Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez To Make A Point About Immigration Laws.

On Wednesday, a politician used Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez to highlight flaws in Arizona's tough immigration law. During a debate at the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Luis Gutierrez used the couple as an example of how complicated the law is.
The controversial legislation, which was passed in 2010, allow Arizona police to detain anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant.
Displaying a photo of Gomez, who was born in Texas but is of Mexican ancestry, next to her Canadian boyfriend, he declared, "These young people have overcome their very different national origins and become, apparently, a happy couple. I'm sure Justin helped Gomez learn all about American customs and feel more at home in her adopted country.
"Oh wait a minute, I'm sorry, because I'm not a trained Arizona official - I somehow got that backwards. Actually, Miss Gomez of Texas has helped Mr. Bieber of Canada learn about his adopted country. Justin, when you perform in Phoenix, remember to bring your papers."
Other stars who have condemned the new law include Lady Gaga, Jessica Alba, Kanye West and Eva Longoria.

My World

My World

Within a couple years, Canadian teenager Justin Bieber went from covering Usher on YouTube to working with Usher. An internet sensation from his renditions of several pop and pop-oriented R&B hits, he was still only 15 years old when he released this, his first album -- though it's more like an EP since it contains only seven songs that are 25 minutes in duration. Given the comfort level he showed in the material he covered, My World plays it straight, based on the kind of age-appropriate content that would fill out a release from a younger Chris Brown or a junior version of Ne-Yo. Members of the Clutch, Midi Mafia, “Tricky” Stewart, Usher, and a handful of other notable producers and songwriters grant Bieber a set of songs that isn't quite top-level quality, but the singer more than gets by on his squeaky-clean charm and natural ability. My World 2.0

My World 2.0

Justin Bieber's My World 2.0 arrives just over four months after the Top Ten My World and is to be considered the second half of the Canadian pop star’s first release, rather than a true follow-up. It does pick up where the brief My World left off, as it mixes peppy dance-pop with lovelorn ballads, mostly within a pop-R&B framework. The ten-song set is led by "Baby," featuring Ludacris. Andy Kellman, Rovi.

My Worlds Acoustic

My Worlds Acoustic

My Worlds Acoustic isn’t quite as stripped down as its title promises. While acoustic guitar is used on most of these versions, there’s plenty of electric instrumentation as well. Regardless, Justin Bieber puts an intimate -- and often slower -- spin on several of the most popular songs from his first two releases, including the Top 20 hits &“One Less Lonely Girl,” &“One Time,” and &“Baby.” The very electric &“Pray,” meanwhile, is a decent, previously unreleased song added as an enticement. Is the disc a cash-in? Absolutely. Will it please his insatiable fans? Absolutely. Andy Kellman, Rovi

Under the Mistletoe

Under the Mistletoe

Credit to Justin Bieber for the effort he put into Under the Mistletoe. Most artists sleepwalk through Christmas albums, but Bieber took this release so seriously that he co-wrote nine of its 15 songs and was motivated to tweet, “forget the hype...i want it to be about the music. listen to the cd. then judge me.” Bieber definitely sounds more enthused by the original songs -- some of which resemble everyday numbers with patched-on seasonal references -- and a cover of Mariah Carey's “All I Want for Christmas Is You” (featuring Carey herself). The versions of holiday staples are pulled off with varying results; “Little Drummer Boy” gets a goofy modernized spin with Busta Rhymes, while “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” lifts bits of the Jackson 5's “ABC” and “I Want You Back” (rather than echoing the Jacksons' version of the song). Some of the Bieber fan base might be a little miffed that the inspirational ballad “Pray,” included on My Worlds Acoustic, makes another appearance here. There’s also the fact that Bieber (still) has yet to release a standard full-length album. He has two EP-length releases, a compilation of those two releases, a set of (mostly) acoustic versions, an EP-length remixes/documentary tie-in disc, and now a holiday album, to his name. Andy Kellman, Rovi

Believe

If you subtract the remixes, acoustic versions, live takes, and holiday material that filled Justin Bieber's releases from 2009-2011, Believe falls only a few tracks shy of doubling the singer's quantity of original songs. That fact alone will satisfy a large portion of his fans. More notably, Believe finds Bieber co-writing all but one song and handling his "not a boy, not quite a man" status with poise, despite some considerable contrast between his age and what he has been through. He's at a point in his life where he would fully deserve a pass for taking himself too seriously, but there's "Boyfriend" -- a G-rated "Wait (The Whisper Song)" with a My World-like chorus -- in which he compares himself to Buzz Lightyear. He has endured puberty, including a voice change, all the while undergoing intense public scrutiny that has included fallout from a paternity accusation. He addresses the paternity issue head-on in "Maria," a real-life, modern-day rewrite of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean": "That ain't my baby/That ain't my girl." (The song is not on the shorter 13-track edition, but it's the most significant song in Bieber's catalog thus far.) Given the space allowed by an hour-long release, Bieber aims for just about every pop market. Believe incorporates appearances from Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Big Sean, while Ludacris is back for the first time. A song featuring slabs of dubstep bass is followed by an acoustic ballad. The throwback "Die in Your Arms" heavily references young MJ, harpsichord and all, and is driven by a well-known breakbeat. The title song involves a gospel choir, while the sound of an acoustic guitar is almost as common as a dance beat. Lyrically, Bieber seems to be in no rush to enter Chris Brown territory. He stays PG, flattering and flirting or stating devotion throughout the majority of the songs; "Loving you is so damn easy" might be the line most likely to raise an eyebrow, while several others, like "Everyone's itching for beauty, but you're scratchin' the surface," have a goofy/awkward teenage charm to them. Believe has enough strong material to keep most of the followers satisfied for another year, while elders should feel relieved that nothing is as sickly sweet as "Baby." Andy Kellman, Rovi

Justin Bieber Cuts Short Radio Interview Over Mom Joke

Justin Bieber Cuts Short Radio Interview Over Mom Joke

Justin Bieber cut short a pre-taped interview with radio show Mojo in the Morning on Thursday after the host compared him to Justin Timberlake and quizzed him about a potential romance between his mother and One Direction's Harry Styles.

Thomas Carballo, the host of the show, was in the middle of a phone chat with the pop star when Bieber took offense at his line of questioning - and hung up.

The 10-minute interview got off to a bad start when Carballo told his guest he thought he was Timberlake the first time he heard him. Bieber said, "That's funny because our voices sound nothing alike... Saying I sound like somebody else is definitely not a compliment."

The singer lightened up when talking about his new song Maria, which was inspired by the woman who falsely claimed Bieber was the father of her baby last year, but he lost his cool when cheeky Carballo got personal and asked if he was worried about his One Direction pal Harry Styles falling for his mom.

The DJ said, "Do you worry about Harry around your mom, since he likes older women?"

Clearly upset Bieber then mumbled something about Carballo's mother and, as the radio presenter explained his mom was dead, the pop star hung up the phone.

A record company representative then tried to convince the DJ that the singer's phone had cut off, explaining, "I can't get him. He's in a really s**tty area." She later revealed Bieber was "upset" with the questions, adding, "He probably won't be calling back."

Styles hit the headlines recently when reports suggested the 18 year old had had an affair with British radio DJ Lucy Horobin last year, after they met at a radio station where the 32 year old worked in Manchester, England.
